Savannah Jones took her phone from her pocket, and she mentally slapped herself for having forgotten that she had it with her. At least there was a way for her to ask for help. The issue now was if it would arrive on time. Savannah hurriedly texted her mother, Maria, while her fingers shook from being nervous. It was unfortunate that her initial message became undecipherable because of autocorrecting. Her first message was, “I’m baby,” and she tried texting again. This time, Savannah was able to say, “He is inside mom. He’s going to hear me.”

Savannah Jones waited for her mother’s response, and during her wait, she could hear the man throttling around the house and opening doors. The 14-year-old could even listen to him, rummaging the cupboards. It was a good thing that Maria finally read her daughter’s message, but then a chill went down her spine. The mother was worried that she was too far away to do anything, and asking for the emergency services might take a while. And yet, there must still be something she could do.
